I keep getting this error message when I click once on a file. Does anyone know how to stop it?

Run word as admin.

Run the Word program in administrator mode. To do so, you may browse to below location:
·         Computer, Programs files/Program files X (86).
·         Look for Microsoft Office ->Office 15.
·         Look for  Winword.exe
·         Right click on it and click Properties
·         Click on the Compatibility tab and check the box for Run as admin.
·         Click ok.
Now try to perform the task and check if the issue persists.

I hope the above steps helps. If you need further assistance on this particular issue or any other Office related issues let us know and we will be glad to assist you.
Thank you.

What version of Windows?  'When I click once on a file.'  Do you mean double-click, or single click?  From the error, it sounds like Office files (.docx, .xlsx, etc) is this correct?

I picked up a HP ENVY 17-j027cl 17.3" Laptop Computer  yesterday froms Sam's Club. The internet is so slow. Pages are opening slow etc. One person did write a review that the wifi wasn't great. Is there anything that might fix this? Or should I just return it?

Internet being slow can be caused by many factors.
1.  Run speedtest.net to ensure your speeds are good.
2.  Disable (or uninstall) any preloaded malware programs and install one that you want to use.
3.  Try different browsers.
4.  If possible, (to eliminate wireless being the issue) plug in to the router and test that way.

How long has the issue been going on for?  Did you make any changes (install software, etc) around the start of this problem?  Any other issues with the computer?
Before you start troubleshooting, many times the simplest answer is not to fix the problem, but just try to uninstall/reinstall.  If you have the CD, in most cases the process should take 15-20 minutes and is much quicker than troubleshooting.  For most basic users, this is the best first troubleshooting step.

You can also try a repair (of Office, not Windows) first, which is even a quicker process.

When I attach an external hard drive to my laptop, I cant get it to eject safely, it says it's in use. It's happening with multiple drives and those drives will eject safely on other computers.

If I sign out then sign back in, i will then be able to remove it safely.

Unlocker doesn't seem to find anything.

Thanks.

Try to temporarily disable your AV protection, and then try it.

I keep getting this error message when I click once on a file. Does anyone know how to stop it?
Update: I put microsoft word into administrator mode and it solved the problem I was having but is also annoying becase each time I try to open a document I need to give it administrator approval to 'allow it to make changes to my computer'. Does anyone know how to switch it from administrator mode back to regular?

Let me add, that in general it is better (as annoying as it can be) to have UAC turned on.  I would not consider this to be a long-term solution.  When you have time, try my suggestion above, of either repair (Office, not Windows), or uninstall/reinstall Office.

Maybe it's a codec issue. Which program did you use to play the DVD? Did you try VLC?
