I would like to turn my wired internet into both wired and WiFi.

if you have cablevision/optimum call them up and ask them for one they were giving them out for free a while back

Why do you say that?  Is that the link you posted above?  I admit I only looked at it for a second, but it looked like a DSL modem/router, not a cable modem/router...Am I wrong?  If they are giving away a free modem/router that will work fine for your needs.

I have never used this particular model, however, generally speaking Linksys is a good brand.  If at some time you might do file/print sharing, you may want to consider getting a router with one or two USB ports.

Generally speaking, I would not recommend purchasing a combo modem/wireless router.  However, if your ISP is giving them away for free, then for your needs IMO it will be fine.

The title of the item is deceptive.  It is indeed a DSL modem, but it also has a WAN port to accept internet from everything else, too.  But, then it just becomes a plain router.  There is no need for someone who has cable to buy this (IMO).

look on amazon I think you can find a decent refurbished one for under 30 bucks
