My friend has an Asus A550C laptop with Windows 8. Today he was using it, when it froze. He manually powered it off, however, now it will not turn back on. The laptop was plugged in at the time. Now there is no response at all when he tries to turn it on. Any ideas?

It won't turn on even when plugged in.

I don't know about that model, but some require the battery to be in to have power.  Are there any lights when plugged in?

So after having a Dell XPS Convertible 12 for 2 days. Here are my experiences: The touch screen will work on and off. I have to restart to get it to work. In general I like the computer except that I do not like Windows 8.

Once I send it back what would you recommend that has similar specs and size but runs windows 7?

My husbands Dell  E510 keeps shutting off over night. Now it doesnt turn on.
The power button is blinking yellow and no numbers are showing up.
Recently we replaced the power supply and made sure the memory wasnt loose.
Does this mean the motherboard is gone and its time for a new PC?

Thank you!

My computer has been really slow lately. Even having 3 tabs open is "too much" for it. I imagine that adding RAM would help. The question is if it's something that's simple to install? I'm not a techie at all and know nothing about opening computers and taking it apart. Also, if you can give me a link to where I can buy RAM that would be very helpful.

Did you try uninstalling what you dont use?
Go to start->control panel->uninstall programs

You can also check the memory usage by going to My computer and seeing how much memory is used/free

I don't have many programs installed, I don't even use my computer for more than email/browsing and watching dvds. I have 360 GB hard drive and have about 100 GB still free. It's still very slow.

My sister had that recently with her Dell laptop. She took it to a tech, he said it's an issue with Dell battery or something, that it disconnects. I'm sorry I don't remember many details but it's not an easy fix. He officially reconnected it but then it didn't turn on a day later and then it randomly did turn on and it's been working since. It's not the motherboard, it's probably something inside got loose (maybe the charging connector to battery?).

I have an HP 510t desktop with 12GB RAM from a few years ago.

Any way to find out how HP configured the 12GB in the 4 available slots?
Think it's 4x2 and 2x2?

Is 16GB the most I can pack into this thing (Win 7 Ultimate 64 bit)?
Save your time, I don't answer PM. Post it in the forum and a dedicated DDF'er will get back to you as soon as possible.

You can use CPU-Z to determine layout.
You can also use CPU-Z (or Speccy) to get Mobo information and then figure out max RAM.

Crucial.com or 4allmemory.com will give you config, and compatible upgrades.  Ultimate x64 max RAM is 192.  Obviously the MB max is much less.

Laptop or desktop?  IMO, for most laptops anyone can do it.  For desktops, anyone can do it, too...but IMO, you should know limits.  The chances of doing major damage are very slim, but there is more going on inside (wires, etc.) that you can by mistake pull out and give yourself a headache.  I'm sure you can find a friend who has done it.

It's for a desktop. I don't have computer tech friends. I guess I'll manage with the slow computer.

I'm not saying you can't, just to know your limits...why don't you google 'change desktop memory video tutorial'.  See if what you find scares you away or not.  The whole process should take a novice 5-10 minutes at most, from unplugging the computer, removing the case, and inserting the memory.

If your computer is as slow as you make it sound, its more likely a different issue slowing it down. Viruses and bad hardware are coming to mind before adding more memory. Just my .02 without seeing the actual machine.
