When running a few programs like outlook, excel, word, adobe + a couple of tabs in chrome it uses up almost all of my physical memory and things occasionally crash. Is this normal for what I have and would it help to add RAM in my situation?

These are my specs: Acer aspire 7750G
Intel core i5-2430M CPU 2.40GHz RAM 4.00

Adobe Reader? Or one of their graphics design or publishing programs? I believe those use a lot of memory.
Check task manager to see what is using all the RAM. Keep in mind that chrome has multiple processes.

You may have memory bleed.  Does it occur right away, or only after the computer has been up for a bit, and you have opened and closed some programs?
You checked task manager to make sure it was a memory issue, and not a cpu issue?

Ok. Too much for me now.  Dansdeals home page won't even come up at this point.  Blank.  (How can life continue??   :o )
In an attempt to start fresh, I pushed 'delete all' in upper left corner of the 'Edit this Cookie' pop-up screen.  Is that what made the dd home screen blank now?
Can someone pleeease help?  Ty.

Its efinitely a memory problem.  Chrome uses massive amounts of ram. Computer is always on. When my WiFi crashed it was cuz there was no memory left.

Your think I should have enough? How do I prevent bleed?

I would say reset everything to default (no extensions, etc), and then re-add extensions one by one, until you find the culprit.
Or, on Chrome, go to: chrome://memory-redirect  and post resulsts.
Are you running latest version?

Having enough memory is not the issue.  There is a software issue, like DanH suggests.

I put the new HD in the enclosure and then booted to the PE, just in case there were any files locked by Windows.
The clone operation took a while, but once it finished it only took a few minutes to swap the HDs. Windows didn't even notice the difference, except that now I have a bigger HD. :)
I just want to add a PSA. It seems that even if you clone a drive, Windows does realize that it's a new drive, to the extent that System Restore will not be enabled automatically for the new drive. You have to enable it manually.

I feel uncomfortable, but I am reaching out to you guys one more time.  Can someone PLEASE PLEASE help elucidate why this is happening and what I should do about it?

1.  Pressing on any comment link brings me to a blank page
2.  The 5 blue tabs on home page bring me to a blank page (connect, CC, Trip notes, etc)

Oops--above msg sent prematurely

This has been going on for about a week now.  Every once in a while (couple days) one of the blue tabs works, then once again brings to a blank page.
(Please see posts #379, #384, and #385 above)
I so would appreciate a dedicated DDFer help me figure this out since this is ONLY happening at this website.  All other links in other websites work!!
Is anyone else having this problem?    TY

Well, it seems that you can only do a Repair Reinstall from within Windows normal mode, not Safe Mode. So I ended up just backing up any updated data and re-cloning.

Sorry, I should have been more clear.  I meant doing a repair by booting to the install dvd.

Well, thanks anyway for your time. Is it possible that the hard drive is bad? It's a brand new Toshiba.

Either Speaker issue or very possibly an issue with the headphone jack. Sometimes something breaks inside and it makes the computer think something is always plugged in. Try to take a good look in the headphone jack
+1
Not uncommon issue with jacks, basically the sensor gets stuck and it thinks there is a headphone plugged in. Think of it as a button which got stuck. You can try using a T pin and GENTLY wiggling it around, often that will help.  IME if it happened once, it will happen again.

1. Is there a way to let a computer connect to a wireless router in order to to be able to access it locally over the network, but block it from Internet access? Preferably in a way which would allow easy switching, for example a firewall with different profiles, one of which would block anything outside of 192.168.*.*
2. Sometimes I would like to tether my computer to my phone just to update Quicken. Is there a similar way to create a profile to allow just one or two programs Internet access and block everything else like Windows Update, etc., and also allow easy switching?
TIA

1. You can for sure do that on the hardware level with a router (e.g. sonicwall).  But why not just put a software filter that blocks everything.  Or for 'fake' protection, put in a bogus DNS for that computer.
