I just read an interesting idea today. If you use portable apps, then all you have to do is backup the folder with the apps, and to restore just copy it back. Since it doesn't affect the registry, all you need is the files.
TY for introducing me to this.  I read up on it at  http://www.techsupportalert.com/guide-to-portable-applications.htm  Now I can work off a USB on all my documents (OpenOffice) wherever I go without leaving a copy on someone else's computer.  Great!

That's right, always have backup, and imo you shouldn't bother with a flash drive, for a measly 50-60 bucks a year you get unlimited constant online backup, and when disaster strikes you'll thank yourself for it.
I know online storage is the future, no, the present, but I try to stay away from digital and wireless as much as I can.  I have always said that nothing is confidential when it comes to digital/wireless/online/etc. (What about the latest...Apple's security breach glitch that they are low keying?)  I'll stick to my antiquated USBs and PalmPilot as long as I can, TY.  You're right re disasters, ch'v.....I need a better b/u system.

I just bought a new lenovo y510p and I see that in the graphic card menu there is a option for 3D does that mean I can watch 3D on it? I downloaded a 3D movie and when I open it I just see a screen divided to half with the movie playing twice in both sides so I just wanted to know if I buy 3D glasses will I be able to see it 3D? Also there are two kinds of glasses the two colored ones and the gray ones which ones would I need?

If one time only, ignore.  If it reoccurs, remember what you had open.  Was the system idle, or were you actively doing something.  Check Windows update logs for recent updates and (temporarily) remove them to see if it helps.  Did you recently install/update any software?

Remember when I said...
...but I am a person of exceptions (good and bad)!  If something can go wrong I'll find a way...

My original issue was...
Monitor is too difficult to read ... HP laptop monitor went bonkers:  very poor resolution where I can see 50% of the pixels, all letters/words are in normal black but surrounded by a thin white outline and then all background is bright pink (most white spaces are now bright pink), colored pixels around words flicker on and off, all colors are off.
Our conclusion was that the screen most likely was broken (I dropped it just before this happened and external monitor worked fine).
Well...the Aibeshter has been up to it again.  A few days ago I noticed resolution getting better and that every other post looked totally normal.  The next day EVERYTHING was back to normal!!!

RIDDLE:  Who can solve this?  How is it that EVEN the SCREENSHOTS that I took THEN have become NORMAL now?!?

The riddle is the answer.  It seems something was wrong with the physical hardware.

Hmm...so I hadn't taken screenshots for eternity of a bonkered screen, rather the screenshots appeared bonkered like all other images at that time.  Got it.

If it is a hardware problem that is now spontaneously fixed, do you recommend I (and can I?) still return it on Amex?  I can't use my screenshots anymore to even prove there was a problem, but I don't want to take a chance of it spontaneously happening again after Amex expires.

Chrome will no longer let me login.  It says '...Please check your cookie settings.'  I had gone to advanced settings and erased all cookies earlier, but I was still able to post after that.    Now I even added dansdeals to Advanced settings->Privacy->Content settings->Cookies ('allow local data to be set' is set)->Manage settings.  Still did not allow to login.

IMO, the quickest possible solution would be to remove and uninstall Chrome.  The exception would be if you customized many settings, then we could troubleshoot to fix the problem.

BTW, I got the same response from another site earlier, but that site has now been working for the past hour.
