IMO, if the only error message has been the c compiler, then it is unrelated to the chkdsk/possible HD issue.

Whether you have a HD issue...any strange noises?  Other computer issues?  The chkdsk could also be triggered by OS (non hardware) related issues.
I am having other issues with software, I get a "Microsoft.visual.basic....threw an exception." -But I thought that that was only related to that specific program which I think is corrupted...

You think its all related to that or a general HD issue? No noise and a very new machine.

In Outlook I have my Inbox and two folders underneath that using rules for which emails should go in there. Identical rules except for the words or senders it's looking for. One is no problem. the other one, all of a sudden, started deleting the emails in its folder after I click on it. Anyone ever experience that? Hasn't happened before and I haven't changed anything in a while. Thanks

IMO and IME, you would be experiencing other issues/symptoms if it were a HD issue.  (This is of course without looking at it firsthand; and as always, backup is essential)

Found the setting after I realized they weren't being put into the deleted items folder. My view, for some reason, was set to only show unread messages. Clicked on all messages and they're all back. Sorry for bothering you guys.

In Documents on my computer, if I had a Word document titled "Hello", it now says "Hello.doc" or "hello.docx". If I had an excel document titled "Hello", it now appears as "Hello.xls" or "Hello.xlsx".

What's going on?

Thanks!

Very simple. The last few letters is basically the file type extension.

But why is my computer suddenly showing me the .doc, it used to not be seen when I opened "My Documents".

Maybe a setting changed. But its normal, and won't do any damage.

Also like ten documents that were modified recently, all of a sudden have a copy made looking like this "~WRL0452.tmp" or "~WRL0001.tmp" and the kicker is that they appear as they were modified a month ago!

what's going on?!

Ok. I went to the control panel, and clicked don't show hidden files, and the .tmps disappeared.

Now I have to figure out, how to get rid of the .docs

Do I have a virus?

Why were so many settings changed?

Thanks.
I tried google. It's all about knowing that those things are called file extensions  :D

How were those 2 settings changed on my computer?

Should I be worried about a virus?

The settings are near each other. More likely someone clicked it in the menus by mistake, or found a keyboard shortcut that does it.

BTW, you may enjoy seeing the file extensions, so you always know what types of files they are.
