AMEX "Points Advance" Being Discontinued

Apparently being ended:

“points advance” feature of American Express Membership Rewards cards is “Available until June 30, 2013.”

the program keeps getting worse and worse.
I've used this feature few times and it was a life saver.

Yep. Yet another blow to the MR program.

The only way(s) MR can compete with UR is:

--Increase frequency, breadth, and depth of transfer bonuses (no, a BA bonus or two isn't going to cut it)
--Add a program like AS or (fight like hell to get the new) AA (highly unlikely, I know)

Without either of the above, they'll never regain dominance.

And, if UR ever adds xfer bonuses? Yikes.

MR still can be transferred anywhere, anytime. And that is a major advantage they have over UR IMHO.

MR are the only way to book SQ suite, for some that is very worthy.

Being able to xfer to Krisflyer does not alone overcome:

--losing CO as a xfer partner;
--Aeroplan gutting its chart, and its YQ
--BA changing to distance-based awards (though it has its uses)
--ANA charging massive YQ on many partners (including most recently EY and VS)
--no DL xfer bonuses in > 12 mos
--no worthwhile hotel option

I never said that MR don't have many negative factors, rather just trying to show what the positives ones are.
