I spent 4 days on jury duty while I was in yeshiva and trying to finish nedarim. I didn't get on a case, just sat around waiting to be on a panel, then sat on a panel, then got kicked off the panel, then waited more to be on a panel, then waited in the hall outside the courtroom, then was talked down to by a judge, then sat in the courtroom on  a panel, then more waiting in the hall, and more being talked down to, and being told to come at a certain and then being told to wait in the hall for hours, וחזר הדין.

You think it is going to be fun, but it's just a lot of waiting around and being patronized and sanctimoniously disrespected.

Like when the judge tells us they don't need us until 2 the next afternoon, but gleefully notes that we don't have to go into work at all because the whole day is a jury duty day--as if the people in the room can afford to take off the day.

At least I got $160.

this was back in the day.

I realized this year how my life has changed. 3 years ago, I was depositing dollar coins at chase bank; now I have the general counsel of JP Morgan Chase visiting my class.

But, depositing dollar coins during bein hasdorim was still a much easier life than being a lawyer.

Brooklyn is full of dumb people. Anywhere north of southern Flatbush.

I think they asked it by me too. I don't think that many people got up.

He told me how he got an award from the OU (I think) for fighting for shomrei shabbos while at the EEOC, and then was accused of being an anti-semite when nominated to the supreme court. And he said, "no, look, I have an award!"

If you are in NYC you can just explain that you live in another area.
On the other hand you can explain what you really think about them shkuzim, and I am sure you will be disqualified.
On the third hand, help out this poor legal system....

When the initial questionnaire comes to your house, DON'T FILL IT OUT!!

Then you're a lot less likely to be called in the first place.

Definitely do, or a laptop (when I was there they had Wi-Fi) otherwise you'll be bored out of your wits.

One thing to consider in trying to get off jury duty is that you are depriving Frum people on trial of a fair trial.

How does one trying to get off of JD deprive a Jew of getting a fair trial?

What are the chances on getting on to an interesting trial?

How does one trying to get off of JD deprive a Jew of getting a fair trial?

He is saying that being a Jew, he would not be able to judge other Jews objectively.
