USAA/hertz/underage car rental

I've got a bit of a problem here.  I reserved a car from Hertz using USAA corp.
When I came to pick up, he asked for USAA ID.  I tried to reason with him that I can pull up an email with my USAA ID# or "let's call them up and ask...", but to no avail.  He insisted that in order to get the USAA rate I must show him some form of USAA ID.  So he gave me the car using some outrageous rate of more than double the price!!!  He said that if when I return the car I show the ID he'll put it back to the USAA rate.

I spoke with Hertz Cust. Serv Reps, they say the printing the email should be fine... But this guy is insisting on the ID...

What to do?!

Any advice would be greatly appreciated, as I am returning the car in like 2 hrs!

You can always fight it out with billing after you return the vehicle, where they'll usually consider any proof.

I have used usaa/hertz and have had the age reduced to 18, no Id asked
I think the trick is where you rent (Lkwd location won't work)
I will warn you that this doesn't include any insurance (personal experience there too )

I think the trick is where you rent (Lkwd location won't work)

This is a not true. Paul in the lakewood location has never asked anyone for ID.

last yr in the summer avis had a very good deal on suv but if used with the usaa code to waive underage fee they didn't honor it unless you had a debit card from usaa email wasn't enough but different times it did work with out any proof

Sams service station in liberty ny , was giving issues at 1 points by forcing everyone to charge the rental on either a usaa credit or debit card ... And cause a lot of issues .
But they were notified of the rules .. And all u need is some ID like a cc

B'kitzur, I came in sort of on the offensive, so he took it easy I guess and accepted a printout of an email; so, didn't have to resort to calling usaa...

Yes. Even though you technically don't even need to open any accounts to become a member.

Once you rent once with it your gold status is confirmed and they won't ask you for it ever

I just wanted to check something. You don't need some sort of car insurance policy do you to be able to rent from 18 from Hertz with USA? Is buying their insurance or using credit card rental insurance enough from 18?

I just don't want to miss any requirements.

Am I correct in thinking that all I need is my proof of USAA membership, and to use the CDP when booking through Hertz? And there are no other requirements (Other than a driving licence ofcourse )?

yes. Use a major credit card , and your reg car insurance should cover liability

Don't be sorry for bumping this, you did the right thing unlike every other n00bie here! Welcome aboard!!

All you need is to join them as a member, you don't need to take any car insurance from them. It is advisable you open a free checking account with them in order to have proof of membership (your debit card).

Will be renting in Los angeles at the end of the year, thanks for this thread as its a life saver. I couldn't find anywhere that would rent to an 18 year old.

I'll be sure to print off my user profile if I haven't opened up a USAA checking account by the time I rent, although from what I've read no ones been turned down with Hertz with a print out anyway and most of the time no ones even asked for any proof.
