One way to do it with miles might be to use seats.aero for the next available mileage flight out of your airport

Has anyone ever walked up to the ticket counter at the airport, asked for the next available flight, and taken it?

I knew bachurim who did something like this as bein hazmanim trip - go to tachana merkazit and take the next bus or the TLV train staition and take the next train. I may have done it once or twice but I dont remember exactly.
