Find can owner by licence plate

Saw a tow truck damage an illegally parked car in a private parking lot and wanted to inform the car owner.

Have the damaged cars licence plate number. Is there any way to find out the owners contact info?

Googled it and it seems to be not accessible to the public, and illegal for a cop to look up for you!

Only way to look up owner of car by plate # is to call the DMV and I doubt they would just give it out to any random person.

Maybe leave a note for the guy to call you.

You can also notify the police.

Though depending where you are the police might react differently....

The car was getting towed. Didn't want to mess with the tow truck driver. Will drive down a few local streets and try find the car tomorrow.

You can also notify the police.

Did call 311 but they put it as a complaint against the towing company, so doubt that helps.

So to clarify, a private tow truck volunteered to move a car illegally parked, and damaged it in the process? And dumped it in the next block without notifying?

Probably was parked on someone's property and the owner has the right to call a tow truck to move it

Was parked in a shared parking lot by a few stores. Store owner called tow company to remove the non-customers car. Saw the truck towing it away, not just to next block. No idea if tow company informed car owner of damage, but i guess will find out when the owner calls me.

Note: this whole event happened during "alternate side" so there was no on street parking available!
