I know a few frum (hobbyist) pilots, I'm even related to one  I also met a Shomer Shabbos fellow who flew (international?) for Delta, this was like 8 years ago, should've kept in touch.

How many hours of flying do you need till you become a pilot that can fly for Commercial airlines?

It's much more complicated than that, besides for tons of hours you need to get lots of training and certification, there are lots of levels in between the most basic pilots license and piloting A380s.

There is a Sephardic UA pilot that I heard about. He flies trans Pacific flights for UA. I always wondered about the issur of Yichud, which you must lock the door these days, and what happens if the other pilot is a woman.

Aren't there more than 2 people in there??? The issur yichud only applies to one man and a woman/one man and 2 women. No problem if you've got 2 men and 1 woman.

I beg to differ. I wouldn't want someone who defies the existence of Hashem flying a plane that I'm aboard. Which plane will be chosen when one's about to go down:-\

One man 2 women- each woman can rationalize that the other is also being oiyver.
2 men 1 women- she wouldn't be nichshal because she would feel like a piece of meat.
