Regarding the original topic: My roomate in yeshiva years ago was very interested in becoming a pilot (everyone else was going for accounting and law etc., but this was his passion).
He did a lot of research and as it stood back then only senior pilots were able to choose not to fly weekends. The more senior you are the more you get to choose better flying days and weekends are the least desirable days. So as junior pilot it seems close to impossible to become a pilot. Of course there is elal and arkia, but who would go into a career knowing that 99% or airlines are closed off to them..
He was able to seek out a handful of frum commercial pilots, but turned out they were all Baal Teshuvas who got into the field prior to being frum.
