Double your grocery's promotion
« on: July 02, 2008, 12:14:26 PM »
Heres a deal that i stumbled upon by mistake. the local grocery store (Cub Foods) is running a promotion that gives you % gas off. Basically ,spend $100 and get 10 cents off per gallon on gasoline, $200 gives 20 cents per gallon etc. Well, i bought a $300 gift card and got a coupon for 30 cents off per gallon. When i spent the gift card, i got another 30 cents off per gallon! Thats a total of 60 cents off per gallon! I wonder if others can try this at other grocery stores that have other offers depending on the amount spent! First see if you get points for buying a gift card, and then find out if you earn points when spending the gift card.
Please try this at your store, and post the results.

Giant Eagle (Cleveland/Pittsburgh grocery store) offers .10 off for every $50 spent on groceries or on GC's, but I'm 99.99% positive that buying their own GC's are excluded from the gas rebate.
Save your time, I don't answer PM. Post it in the forum and a dedicated DDF'er will get back to you as soon as possible.

On a related note, many are unaware that ShopRite will link your Price Plus card to give Continental miles.

Dollar for dollar?
If so, does that mean that you can get double miles if you use your Continental cc?

Guess so. This is from ShopRite, and shows on the bottom of your receipt.

PriceChopper in CT has this same promotion of getting 10 cents etc. off gas with a $50 purchase (that was an example, I don't know the actual rates).

The store is Cub Foods. A Supervalu owned? chain of stores in Minneapolis and other Midwest areas. The coupon is for Holiday Gas Stations.
I was also SHOCKED that they gave it for GC, but when i bought one it worked! Dan, try it out at your local Price Chopper.
SHOPRITE:(Double the Double!!!!) Can anyone confirm if you can get continental points when purchasing and/or redeeming gift cards?

I don't mean to hijack the topic but we are talking about gift cards so...

You know those AMEX gift cards where you put a certain amount of money on it and you can give it to someone to use...can you buy those on a credit card? If yes, that's awesome! Buy a $100 gift card and then pay for your stuff with that and enjoy the points. Or better yet, buy a $1000 gift card every month for your purchases and get 1,000 points every month on your credit card....

Ok I must admit I just totally wrote something that made no sense. If you buy a $100 gift card and then use it to buy $100 worth of stuff, you didn't gain any miles because you would've gotten them anyway by putting that same $100 on your credit card. So "username", what were you just referring to when you mentioned something about buying a giftcard and getting points?

Eli..read the post again. Basically, you only buy $100 worth of groceries, but get the promotion point as if you bought $200 worth, since you get points both when purchasing, and when redeeming the GC.
