Shipping your luggage
« on: May 03, 2013, 11:27:14 AM »
I'm headed to Europe in the summer and don't want to schlep my luggage that I need for my final destination in Israel.

What's the most cost effective way to send my luggage?

Does anyone have any experience shipping their luggage?

A little off topic what about asking someone to bring it for you?

Not exactly off topic. ;)

That is an option though I haven't yet found anyone going in my city that I can ask.
Hoping I will, but just in case...

Just two 50Lb suitcases. And I could probably send it pretty early. Any idea on costs?

There was recently a company on Shark Tank called "LugLess" or something like that. I wonder if they're any good...

I emptied the content of a suitcase into a large box and a ddf member helped me with his FedEx account.

From NY to LA. Total weight was 55 Lbs. Was $48 including pickup.

usps priced about $10 more, but would involve a shlep to the post office, plus FedEx is much more reliable.

Not sure if you can just stick a label on a suitcase and mail it!

You would pay extra for the unusual dimensions.

Is there a reasonable way to ship to Israel?
Airlines sending me "We're in this together" emails.

Bruh, where were you when my suitcase weighed it 51.50 pounds?

Dont know if it works , but maybe u can buy a refundable ticket, check in your luggage and don't fly , your stuff should arrive in israel have someone flying that day to walk it out ,
And I should get all the money back for the ticket
Does this work ?

For security reasons, a plane will not fly with luggage if the owner is not on the plane.
This has been in effect for many years (way before 9/11)

If you're bombing the plane, your going down with it.

-1. I've had a plane leave without me but with my luggage on board.

US domestic

Good luck doing that for a flight to Israel. I've been on plenty flights where we had to wait for luggage to be offloaded
