Lawn Mower
« on: May 05, 2013, 07:05:00 PM »
I really need to buy a lawn mower, but I dont even know where to start... I live on a corner so I'm responsible for both sides of my house, plus the backyard. Anyone have any tips on what I should be looking for and what is normal to spend?

I'm totally guessing, but I think its about 8,000 sqft...  I know I don't want anything corded or I won't be able to go all around, but other then that I'm clueless...

.2 of an acre?
That sounds really small.
You can get a reel mower...

Your best bet is a Gas Self Propelled mower. You know how if your car is in drive but your not pressing on the gas it moves forward slowly? Same concept. It's a lot easier to use as it propels itself and you mainly just need to guide it along.

They start at approx. $250. See a sample selection here: Home Depot Self Propelled Gas Movers.

If you have a 10% off lowes coupon Home Depot accepts them as well.

I just bought this one for $289 - 10%=$260 and I'm very happy with it. My lawn is 15,500 sq feet and it it soo much easier that it's self propelled.

As an aside, I just bought a grill today from Home depot but didn't have any more 10% coupons. I called Home Depot and told them I am trying to choose between Lowes and Home depot and told them to make me a good offer.... they offered me a 15% off coupon which they applied after I placed my order!

I would go for this http://www.sears.com/craftsman-140cc-low-wheel-side-discharge-push-mower/p-07137000000P?prdNo=2&blockNo=2&blockType=G2 if you want a gas powered one. assuming your lawn isn't hilly and you can take 10 min of pushing

This looks perfect. Thanks! Can I find something similar in Home Depot (I have ~$50 store credit) or Lowes (freedom)?

Just do a little research into maintenance so you don't have problems.

I would really reccomend a self propelling lawn mower, the summers gonna be hot...
BTW you can also pick up a lawn mower in the flee market-very YMMV but you can test it on the spot and will hopefully get you through a season or even two.

Look for a self propelled TORO mower, you can’t go wrong.
Only on DDF does 24/6 mean 24/5/half/half

8,000 feet is not at teeny as you make it sound. Still takes a while to mow. I highly recommend a self propelled...

BTW I got a craftsman last year that has a battery start thing. The starter worked only once once, waste of time and money, but would be a good feature for a woman, IF it actually worked.

Three year old Toro and still starts first pull. DW has no problem starting it.

You do know you have to recharge it right?
And TORO is expensive...
