If I can't get the AF waived for the United Club card, what would be the next choice to pay (large) tuition with?

It really depends on what categories the $30,000 of spending are in.
And, of course, it depends on whether you plan to use points to redeem for travel or to sell, and if to redeem for travel, what kind of travel, etc.
So this is not one size fits all.
Also, if you plan on churning throughout the year, you will probably put most of your spending on whatever card you recently applied for and need to meet spend on. That's what most folks around here end up doing, so you're question never becomes nogeyah  :)
If you want to sell your points, and your spending is not in any category that gives extra ppd on Ink, Freedom, PRG, etc., then I would say put your spending on SPG - the points are the most valuable. But it may very well be the wrong choice based on spending categories...

The united card gives a 10K bonus for spending 25K in one year.  So if all your tuition can be paid in one calendar year, you get 35K point for spending 25K

I believe return protection is $500 on plat as opposed to $300 on spg, although I'm not certain

« Reply #95 on: October 06, 2013, 01:06:09 PM »
Hi. I'm new to the forums, but am always on this site for good deals.
I plan on doing home construction, approx $100,000 worth. Right now i have american express starwood and has visa. Which card would be best to put this $ on?  Where would i maximize the most miles?  Btw, i have good credit and am open to another card if thats best.

Thank you so much

Between those 2 choices the Starwood card.
Actually you're best off never using the HAS cars again. Ever.

You should probably open a few cards as well though.  Where are most of these charges going to be from?

I'm doing home construction, kitchen...

Btw, we usually use starwood unless a store doesnt take it.
Which other card do you recommend?

Well there are plenty you could open to get a sign up bonus with spend like that.

My personal top picks for spending :
Chase Sapphire Preferred
American Express Business Gold
Starwood

Others to consider opening to get the sign up bonus.

Chase Hyatt
Chase United
Chase BA
Starwood Business
Ink Bold
