Can't leave LAX earlier in the week?
Nope. DW (is a teacher and) has winter break Fri-Sun (9 days), so the fact that we're leaving on Wed pm and getting back Mon mid am is already pushing it.

Not really. We're leaving on Wed from LAX and going straight to SIN. I know shabbos there isn't ideal (especially for a guy who usually davens at a hashkama minyan 7:00-8:40 on a regular shabbos), but unless we flew straight to PEK after landing in SIN, just to go back to SIN on Mon I don't think it'll work. Plus that'd mean an extra flight, SIN-HKG, and getting a visa for China if we went SIN-PEK-SIN instead of SIN-PEK-HKG.

Given the circumstances, do you think my proposed itinerary is good?
Go to Shenzhen for a day. Or Manila, it loas, or Cambodia, or Malaysia etc.

A visa for 1 day in Shenzhen?
Save your time, I don't answer PM. Post it in the forum and a dedicated DDF'er will get back to you as soon as possible.

Doesn't Shenzhen for a day require a visa, as a transit visa won't apply?

Try the new Park Hyatt Sanya Do c+p+dsu for a 130 meter suite for a fraction of what that would cost anywhere else in the world.

If your trip is after may 27th my 100% suggestion would be the Ritz-Carlton Macau with points if you have the points. Just look at those photos. The hotel is opening then. I booked it for the 31st.

There are soooooo many good option for a 2 day trip in that part of Asia. Look at a map and choose. Flights and hotels are cheap almost everywhere there. Speak to Suave.

I don't have RC points, but that doesn't mean I can't open a card or two (RC HKG is also supposed to be nice), but still.

There's no particular reason to do Macau, no advantage over LAS.

Maybe, but it should be somewhere that has direct *A flights to/from HKG. That's why I though of TPE or PEK. Have you been to TPE?

Often you can find flights for $50 OW from HKG to other countries in that region like sin, mnl, etc etc

Wasn't the walk to shul far? Looks like a 38 minute (1.5 mile) walk. Aren't there good points options closer to shul like the Intercontinental, Conrad, or Ritz?

It was a nice walk, but the GH SIN was phenomenal. Even in the dead of summer, I'd go back and stay there.

Service was better than most PHs I've been to. Room upgrade was awesome. Absolutely no issue with heating up POM meals. Pretty pool with free cabanas. Beautiful spa and gym.

FWIW, I'm DIA, and haven't stayed there as a Plat or lower, so I'm not sure how much of the level of service can be attributed to that, but we had in-room checkin, during which the agent saw me taking pictures and proactively offered to take pics for us. And not just one or two, but insisted on taking a bunch.

That's awesome! I'm only Plat, but I might be able to find someone to book me as Guest of Honor, unless you're offering  ;).

+1-Stayed there last summer in the dead of summer and had a fantastic time. It's very well located right near a stop on the subway system and the service in phenomenal! Got upgraded to a suite only being plat...
