Does anybody have an idea what the "magic" number might be?

Is business in El AL that good anyway? Should I just bid on an extra seat in coach, considering I am flying with wife and an extra seat in between us would be great too...

Go Here when you enter your confirmation number and name it should then pop up and info about a upgrade. Thats how it always showed to me, a internal window pop-up notification.

-1. I upgraded from CDG-TLV and TLV-CDG for low 200's online a few days before the flights.

I find a WSJ video that talks about this, auctioning off upgrades.

they used to have "business seats with coach service" for $250 on the tlv-nyc route.   it was only when business class was pretty empty, so you couldn't count on it.
