LOL, judging shallots based on a burger
That's like saying you went to here Beethoven play but he was just ok. And by the way, I only paid for the Fisher Price piano concert

Any restaurant should make a great burger. It's a basic item they should excel at not fob you off.

The menu was boring and looks like it was written in 1995.

Tiera sur has a way better menu for cheaper. Plus the decor at shallots was horrible.

Service was just OK.

Eh, while Shallots is definitely not all it's cracked up to be, it's a lot better than you're experience. If one bad experience will crap on 10s of recommendations, you are too easily swayed. The decor was much nicer a few months ago, and their sushi is exceptional by most standards. I think you need to taste a bit more of the menu to really get a feel. As for the streaking, I was there last night...where were you?

I came like 8:45. I'm accepting invitations from anyone paying for my dinner.

Sushi was good but the roll was like half the size of a normal roll. The menu was lame, there was nothing interesting appetizer wise, the mains were mind boggling expensive. I got a burger that was just good. Had to pay $20 corkage for bringing our own wine. Dinner for 2 was over $100 that's a picture of Benjamin Franklin I'm never getting back.
Mine was $100 for dinner for 1 but the steak was good. I thought that's the going price for kosher meals, no?
I just found a new supply of forks!

Shallots is everything wrong with the kosher culinary world, it's basically the same thing as rare was in Miami and good riddance.

For shame Chicago has little in terms of kosher food options.

Dan, I should listen to a mutual friend with cle ties that told me not to trust your food recommendations.. Honestly. At least Evita has retro trendy decor. The only place I'd eat here is Milt's though friends are pushing me to go to Ken's but honestly IIm glad my mother left Chicago 35 years ago...

Shallot's is way more than the normal going price for kosher restaurants, but I've found their steaks and sushi to be of very high quality, as have people like @AJK who have flown in to Chicago for a meal more often than I have.

Not sure why anyone would judge a sushi and steakhouse by a burger.
Real shame if they closed for a month and spent a lot of money for poor decor.

They got caught doing work without permits and had to take all their work out and redo it... not sure why that played into bad design choices. But the illegal work apparently was a lot nicer

Like I said, the appetizer selection was silly,  had to ask 3 times for sushi menu.

Would I have spent $75? Maybe.. If it was a restaurant like tiera sur but this menu didn't impress.

75 = 100+ with tax, tip, corkage.

A burger shouldn't just be OK because the place Is fancy, the opposite, the burger and every item on the menu should be extraordinary.

Which burger did you get that was so terrible? I've had most of their burgers, and was never thoroughly disappointed.

Poor analogy. It's more like, Lang Lang can play amazing music but he better be good at the basics too.

A burger shouldn't just be OK because the place Is fancy, the opposite, the burger and every item on the menu should be extraordinary.

+100

I'm not commenting specifically regarding shallots.

I guess when a burger is $30 you expect to be blown away not just OK.

$30 gets me a Kobe burger.  ;)

Seems like they are still in middle according to Instagram.
I asked someone for a pic and now I'm actually confused bc it's clear that they are not done. They prob couldn't afford to stay closed.

I didn't know shallots was fancy or was because now the decor blows. I thought it would be a great retro restaurant. I bought a bigger as I said, because the apps were lame and the mains were insanely expensive.

I very rarely eat out and when I do I'm not so cheap, but nothing there justified the cost IMHO.

But anyways, having an OK burger is not like comparing economy to business class, I paid a premium for a burger, paid 20$ to bring wine for a formal dining, 18% tip. Now $100 for burgers for 2 and 1 roll of sushi and a desert when it was just OK.. Well that's not OK.

Now Milt's brisket burger is amazing!!

pastrami burger, it had no chemistry, the pastrami was like hard lamb bacon and there was no sauce, the burger lacked flavor. I can make a better product at home for about 5$ and 15minutes

Sorry, but nobody told you to go to Shallot's and order a burger. I can also assume that Shemtov's makes good pizza or that Fuego makes good steaks, but those would be wrong and I should've done the research into what's actually good there beforehand.

If you wanted recommendations, you should have read this:
