Sorry, but nobody told you to go to Shallot's and order a burger. I can also assume that Shemtov's makes good pizza or that Fuego makes good steaks, but those would be wrong and I should've done the research into what's actually good there beforehand.

If you wanted recommendations, you should have read this:
http://forums.dansdeals.com/index.php?topic=83267.0

I did not like the Patron steak, which is a signature steak, so is incorporated by reference at that link.

nope, thats BS and one of the most moronic stances and exactly WHY the kosher restaurant scene sucks.

Flam makes great wine, their noble is amazin but very expensive, their classico is good and cheap.

I ddidnt go to Shallot's, order the kids shnitzel and fries and then cry.

I ordered sushi which was excellent but roughly the size of  a half normal roll.

A friend ordered a burger at izzy's bbq and said it sucked, I said but they make amazing brisket, he didnt budge, no restaurant has any justification in selling a sub-par product, certainly not an expensive restaurant.

Your logic "who goes to shallots and gets a burger" my logic "what kind of highly rated restaurant serves medicore items on their menu"

As for your food recommendations, I think people are morons for buying crappy wine and I just as much fault restaurants for selling it, we brought a bottle of Herzog Chalk Hill 2008

For me, a burger is a great budget item while marked up about a 4 x, if the beef was ground fresh and cooked well, its a good deal.

Usually I see no justification in getting steak, i can go to the store, pick out insane marbling meat and with under 5 minutes of work on my part be done.

Now, take the harbor grill bistro, ive done many wine diners there. He has out of the world charcuterie, insane pulled beef ravioli and the list goes on.. or take tiera sur etc.

If I want the best steak in the world, I just go to my friend in woodmere, eat genourmes cowboy steaks aged 30/60/90 days, sous vided and seared

I'm not arguing that the kosher restaurant scene is amazing, because it isn't.
You need to find out what a place specializes in.

If you get the burger and fries and izzy's that is your own fault. I don't want to hear complaints.

If you don't get the specialty sushi rolls like the Lion King/Dynamite and the specialty steaks like Garlic crusted/Wagyu/Delmonico at Shallots that is your own fault.

Nobody said everything they make is amazing. There is no kosher restaurant like that in the world!
I've ordered food like short ribs from Harbour Grill that were completely inedible. A bad dish doesn't make a bad restaurant.

The end.
Save your time, I don't answer PM. Post it in the forum and a dedicated DDF'er will get back to you as soon as possible.

Is this issue specific to the kosher scene or is there the same issue with non-kosher restaurants? @ChaimMoskowitz ?

Those are your personal preferences...as I said, the menu was uninspiring looking like it was drafted in the 90's. Nothing there made me want to try out dishes or plunge for a 50-100$ item.

Is that specific to Kosher? Most high-end kosher are that I've been to are not like that anyhow.

I think you should try the braised BBQ short ribs. Great meal, and only $40. I'd also give their sushi another shot. Funny I say that as I stand here with their lead sushi chef

I thought this was the boo milts thread. When did it become the bash Shallots thread?

For the record: The best way to be disappointed by a restaurant is to go in with high expectations.
