Parking at ORD: The cheapest place to park is in the O'hare lot G. It's $10/day. Be aware that you need to take a bus to the tram (in lot E) which takes you to the terminals. This can take 20-25 minutes

It's not unusual for flights bound for EWR (and anywhere in the NYC area) to be subject to ground-holds and in-air holding patterns during high congestion or in case of even minor weather events.
But even in the event that it happens, is it generally even close to 3 hours? Or is that the exception? At the moment, the weather looks clear in EWR that day - I think I could handle an hour delay which would get me into EWR at 6:10, or even a little later than that. Much later than that might start to get me into trouble.

I want to go to Chicago from NY (preferably JFK) and back next Tuesday. I want to visit someone at the Self Help Home for a couple of hours and return home. I want to get home at a decent hour. If someone has a good idea what time I should go, most inexpensive airline, and when to leave, etc. feel free to fill me in. Otherwise I'll start Reb Googling. Figured I'd take a chance and ask.

I noticed that there may be a train from ORD that goes to the area the Self Help Home is at. Is that anything to look into?

For those with MDW experience, do you agree that a tarmac delay (more than just a brief one) is unlikely? Of course it's possible, but I'm just trying to make the most informed decision....
Can't remember the last time I had a long tarmac delay at MDW.
Only on DDF does 24/6 mean 24/5/half/half

Thanks! I think I'm just going to risk it and try for the 2pm flight - and will have a backup place to stay in Chicago if need be.

What's the best local pizza?

Separate question - where's the best place for vegetarian/vegan options?

We have 2 pizza shops in West Rogers Park, Chalavi (Aka Main Pizza) and Tel Aviv Pizza and two in Skokie, EJ's Pizza and Sarah's Brick Oven Pizza. Lots of different opinions on which is the best.
For vegetarian/vegan you can go to Emma's cafe in Skokie or Bond Coffee Shop in West Rogers Park.

Probably EJ's since they have a back room, you should call them to ask if you can reserve it.

All the kosher pizza stores in Chicago are terrible. And when I say terrible, I mean ‘worse than frozen pizza terrible’. Also, Chalavi is closed on Friday. I’ve been to several out of town communities and none of the pizza stores there were ever closed on a Friday. It’s really annoying.

And let me rant a little more. I can’t understand why anyone would want to live in CHI. Weather is brutal most of the year, high taxes, democratic politicians, and really bad kosher food. In other words, you don’t get any of the benefits of living in an out of town community (Dallas, Miami, etc.) + you lose the conveniences of living in NY ( kosher food, more shuls, subway, travel to city, etc.).

I’ve been here for several years and can’t wait to leave. I’d do anything to live in Dallas, Miami, even Detroit, but Chicago? Why do people like it here?

I know I sound stuck up, but I’m curious. For those who moved to CHI, what do you like about living there, if anything?

I think most people there just get used to it and deal with it. However, totally understand you.
