I just called the hotel and said that I was taking my wife away for our anniversary and is there any chance of getting  an upgrade. I had not even booked the room yet, and they said just call us back when you book, and we will put the upgrade through.

Was a really amazing hotel. I would ask if there are any rooms not near the hospital side. It wasn't a big deal, but if someone is a light sleeper or there are a lot of emergency calls, I could see it being a bit annoying.

+1 - sounds like the hotel worked out in the end! I had a similar experience with a free night at the PH Chicago! I was upgraded to a suite with a beautiful view.  I believe the bathroom in the suite was larger than my apartment (yes, I said my apartment)!

How timely. Thanks for the write up.

How'd you score the upgrade at the Hyatt, by email prior or at checkin?

Ken's was disappointing? Too bad. Can you recommend another alternative?

I'll definitely be checking out Second City comedy club.

I grew up on burger buddies. Haven't had it in a while though. Sandwich club is pretty good though.

Swap it without a doubt.
M for lunch, S for dinner.

I don't think I can do both.

I arrive ORD at 130 so by the time I'd be able to eat lunch it'll be 3. I just wont be hungry enough to do the second meal justice, and at Shallot's prices, I'd like to do more than justice ;)

I thin because Mrs. AJK has never been to Milt's we're going to have to pass on Shallot's this time around.

One thing I love, are shakespeare plays (make the jokes now)  - They have them at navy pier sometimes.

In terms of touring: The top of the Willis (Sears) tower is cool

Good to know, thanks.

that is why we picked up from Kens, but they wouldnt let us bring it into the show so we ended up eating it on the plane the next day.

If only they let you take food in!

Once you are downtown (Navy Pier/Magnificent Mile area), you can walk around.  This time of the year, it is a hit or miss on weather.

That's a great idea. Too bad they don't have any this week.

Also, for anyone staying at the Hyatt Regency, you can park down the block for $14 (instead of the $59, or $35, it'd cost to do Valet at the hotel).

Thanks
We're staying at W lakeshore. I want to do something a little more organized. I was thinking about architecture boat tour but I guess it'll be too cold. And I guess that means segway is out too. hhop-on hop-off bus tour or is that lame?

I'd go straight to Milt's and a late dinner at Shalott's without a doubt.
Sushi, signature steaks, and desserts at Shallott's are all 10/10.

Should be at least 2 TRs from Shallot's.
But pretty much any sushi (try 1 tempura and one not), any sig steak, and the strawberry shortcake dessert.

I loved the Mag Mile and it is close to Trader Joes also which has a ton of kosher food. Also there was a fridge in the room. It is a nice place and the staff were beyond amazing
