shabbos in Manhattan
« on: May 10, 2013, 10:38:46 AM »
Hi, Im staying for Shabbos in the upper East Side. Between 60 and 70th street. What is the best closest shul for a chassidishe yungerman?

Where is there parking in the area for cheap?

Thanx in Advance.

Chabad of UES? 77th and 1st.
Also parking on the weekend is pretty easy there. You should be able to find on street parking.
I still get nightmares when I think of looking for parking in UES when I lived there.

Chazan Helfgot is at the Park East Synagogue on 67th/Lex.  Want to hear him?
Another possibility is Lisker...but I am not sure what it's like these days.

Lisker Shul crowd depends on the week- the mispallelim are mostly people who are in area hospitals with family- but often there are some chassidishe people there. I really enjoyed Park East when Helfgott is there (he isnt there every week) even if there wasnt really a heimishe crowd there (although there often will be a few that come to hear Helfgott).

+1 I had to stay near a hospital in the area one shabbos, and really enjoyed Helfgot who did all tefilos that shabbos, together with the choir. Check their bulletin. As to parking, consider the Icon deal available on the main site.

You may find street parking but it is a good idea to know which garage you would use as backup because rates vary a lot.

-1
Best chances are 5-6 when the workday ends and people move their cars. By 7, people have already started parking their cars for the night.
