How Honest Are You?

What did you do when you had a chance to profit, but you still returned/fixed/told and lost the opportunity for that gain.

Last 2 things that come to mind:
On vacation in Hawaii we went to a botanical gardens near Halea'akala and we bought a handful of souvenirs there and she miscalculated by quiet a few dollars. I went back in and paid her what she missed.

A few weeks ago I bought a couple of things in Walmart, after I loaded the car I realized she didn't charge me $80+ for a bookcase I bought. At that point I decided it's to late / to much work to go back and try to explain what happened.
I only paid 15% by switching to dansdeals

I was at the bank the other day and they deposited an extra $100.
I figured they will prob catch in anyway.

Im sure they will catch it. I once did it the other way I wrote less than I had deposited and within a week I got a letter with info about the correction.

99% of the time I go back or let someone know I received too much money. The other 1% is when it would be a major inconvenience to go back and I feel as though it's not my job to go chase after their mistakes.

Sometimes I'll just call the store/company and let them know what happened and usually they just tell me to forget about it or they will take care of it ( ex. come pick up an extra stroller I received)

In 2008 CapitalOne offered me a perk on my No Hassle Rewards credit card - the choices were more points per dollar, a lower interest rate, or a higher credit line.  I already had the most points and the lowest rate they could offer, so I told them more credit please.  They said they would raise my limit by $1,500 (my limit at the time was probably about $4,500).  A week later I logged into my online account expecting a $6k limit, and I found a $19,500 limit.  I guess she added a zero lol.... I still have the card and they never took back the increase.

The question is, are you really making a kiddush hashem by going back? Does the non-Native American employee at TJ Maxx or Walmart really care that you came back to pay $20? In my opinion, she can't care less. If it was a small store where you would be dealing with the owner, he would probably appreciate that you came back and it would make a kiddush Hashem.

I never go back or call back to fix a mistake, unless I deal with a member of my parents' religion.

If it's a small storebusiness I would go back even with the hassle, or at least try letting the guy know and letting him deal with it.

I went to a money changer in Geula, I gave him $100 when the rate was a bit under 4 nis to a dollar.

He gave me back close to 800NIS! I told the guy sir, I only gave you $100. He wasn't thankfull at all, what a jerk.

i bought some stuff at a small store in ch.
there was some sort of sale.

after going over the reciept a bit later i saw that the worker had miscalculated the discount. wasnt major amount but it was a very busy convention and i figured she would make the same mistake a bunch more times.

i went back but it was a hassle to get her to figure out where her mistake was, and then a bigger hassle for her to figure out how to reprocess it.

if it wasnt in the shchuna....

I was in a bakery in Boro Park and I bought 5 danishes at $2 a piece. The total was $10, I gave my CC and was told we don't take CC. I had $5 cash so I asked for 2 pastries and $1 change. The really nice women told me take 3 and don't worry about it. I was 2 blocks away when I realized I also had 2 quarters in my pocket. I felt that I should go back and give it to the bakery as surely had I realized I had more money while still there I would have given it to them. The women was so shocked and surprised that I came back.

Went to the bank at the drive-thru. When I opened the tube to put my deposit in it there sat around $400.

ETA: Anyone notice the minute I post in a thread it gets moved from GD to JS?
