What to do?
« on: May 13, 2013, 09:39:21 AM »
Hey guys! My wife's boss has not paid her since peasach. Every time she approaches him he says either this Tomorrow or this Friday. Sometimes he says your checking account is not valid for direct deposit etc. any ideas how I should handle this? I have a friend who is a lawyer he said he would help me. Not sure if I want to go that route. Any suggestions? She is already looking for a new job. But what about the money owed?

Can she ask for a check or cash?

Go to small claims court for a $20 fee, you don't need a lawyer, but in small claims court you could only ask for upto $5000 if you have any more questions please post:

Why is your wife still working for him?

This guy seems like a real jerk even if eventually he will pay, but it looks like you will always have to be begging to get paid, not worth the aggravation.

Quit, and go to Beis Din to collect the money owed. If he doesn't show up, then I wouldn't feel bad taking it to Small Claims Court

he does have up to date computers, tv etc  but don't really think it's a option. I'm going to meet him today and see what he says. Either way we are looking for new job like some have suggested. Ill keep you up to date. Chances are he won't pay and then I will have to go to bes din.

When I was in yeshivah, one of the staff was a few months behind in being paid, he  locked the Menahel's computer and said he wouldn't open it untill he had the money in his accounts (I don't know the details but I know the Menahel tried hiring an expert to unlock it and it didn't work).

Most of the times when I hear of people not getting paid they work for a school.

2 wrongs dont make a right.

If you end up going to small claims court, its not worth it to fight beforehand
