Which cards can you reapply for to get another bonus?
« on: May 15, 2013, 02:16:53 PM »
I'm sure bits and pieces have been mentioned in numerous threads, but it's hard to find all the information in one place, so I thought I'd ask in a new thread.  (on the other hand, if a thread already exists, please point me to it)

Which credit cards out there today have people earned bonuses for, cancelled, then after an amount of time (if necessary), reapplied and received another bonus for?

I've got several cards that are sock-drawered that on the one hand, I can hold and wait until my next CC application to use as leverage, but if the cards are multi-dippable, perhaps it'd be better if I cancelled them ASAP.

From what I've read, the following cards are multi-dippable (apologies if there's a better term for this.  perhaps "churn", but "churn" also seems to mean cancelling one set of cards for a new set of different cards).

Almost all Amex cards, but for the gold and platinum cards, you have to relinquish the card and any in its family for at least 12 months.

Citi AA cards are churnable but require 18 months between signup

I've heard people have double dipped with the Barclay's NFL card (though being Barclays, just getting an extra card can be quite difficult).

Any news on Chase?  The best I've heard for Chase is getting the Sapphire Preferred Visa bonus, then getting the Sapphire Preferred Mastercard bonus, but those aren't the exact same cards.
There's also the 4 flavors of Southwest CCs (premier personal, plus personal, premier business and plus business), but again those are different.

For my own purposes, I'm interested to know if anyone has had success getting the bonus twice for the Southwest Chase Plus Card.   As well as if anyone has gotten the bonus twice for either flavor of the CSP card (I'm coming up on the AF for the MC after already earning bonuses on the Visa and MC).

As for this thread in general... please share your experience and knowledge about which cards are multi-dippable and what requirements you had to meet to succeed.

Thanks

Chase cards are generally churnable FWIU, including the CSP but some cobranded cards are harder like the BA card.

I don't know for sure about the southwest, but for sure if you try make sure to use a new FFN number

Not for the switch. Only when you reapply for the Visa.

I looked around earlier this week and noticed there was claims (on another site) of a working MC app on someone's blog.  I don't recall now which blog, but google may be able to help.

Question to you all...everyone suggests taking an existing CSP Visa, converting to CS or Freedom MC and then reapplying for the CSP Visa (with I assume the goal to get another bonus)....isn't that double dipping in the same CSP Visa too soon?   That's either 12 months from your previous CSP Visa app, or a few days from the last time you had a CSP Visa.   Contrary to what Yellow said, I thought Chase was hard to churn...or at the least required a bit of separation (I assumed over a year) between same card applications.  Am I wrong on this?   Why not just cancel the CSP Visa, and then apply again (assuming you have a place to store the UR points in the meantime)?

Thanks

Yes.

That's the way i do it. Though others say to convert it and use the converted card as leverage to push through a new Visa app.

Thanks Shmulyg (and Yellow) for correcting my misunderstanding.

I guess then I'll just apply for the CSP Visa when my CSP MC's AF hits next month.  (hopefully Chase won't care that I have several non-Chase hard pulls from earlier this month).

if you convert to MC you can say you need the different perks of each card (primary car rental insurance in israel?) when applying for visa again.

if you downgrade to freedom thats just extra points waiting to be earned in bonus categories because instead of only having $1500 spend in bonus categories now you have $3000

also you can use as leverage to open the new card and achieve the bonus by closing and transferring the credit line over
