If you're a student, Apple has a discount, somewhere around $200.

Do you know you'll like it? Apple will charge a 10% restock fee if you want to return it.

Amazon is cheaper and no tax if you have a non-NY address.
Save your time, I don't answer PM. Post it in the forum and a dedicated DDF'er will get back to you as soon as possible.

I don't know. I have finally decided to give up on Windows!!! If I do the student link I get the Mac Book Pro for $100 off plus $199 towards an Ipod touch so its like $300 but I pay $150 in taxes. Amazon will be only 5% off.

Is there a restocking fee with them?

It pretty much comes down to if you want that Ipod or not.

Can I ask what made you "give up" on windows?

No restocking fee with Amazon and you'll have 30 days instead of just 14 days to return.
If this is your first Mac I'd strongly recommend buying from a place that doesn't charge a restocking fee on returns.  Nothing quite like getting socked with a $200+ bill for trying out a laptop for 10 days!

I have just had problems. I always get error messages, the system is always slow despite having advanced hardware.
My IT guy keeps on telling me its the only way.

I dont run heavy programs so i should be getting fast responses and I am not

Gotcha, as long as your not using it for "complicated" stuff
I have a macbook pro 15 that I got 3 years ago n it runs perfectly, still got to upgrade to snow leopard. Only downside I see to new one is the built in battery so if you're using it for travel and need a spare, can't do it, sorta like the iphone

Do you think there are any real differences between the low end and higher end? Any downsides to windows?

Wow, I've never heard of anyone being charged a restocking fee from Amazon...
You could always click on the "problem with item" box when doing an amazon return I suppose.

Built in batteries are the number 1 reason I avoid Apple's.
I always carry a spare battery.  Besides batteries have finite lives, why would I want my electronics to be subject to the whims of a battery?

I was unsure because I once returned a GPS that I was having problems with and got zapped with a restocking fee. I dont think I clicked the problems box. Do I run a risk or do you think I will get the refund?

Cant I get a battery replaced? Or do I really have to throw out the computer?

If you click the box that there was a problem with how the item was shipped or the item is defective they won't charge a restocking fee.

It can be replaced, but that will cost $$$
