Can I take dry ice on a plane?
Depends on the airline.  Call and ask first.

I'm no Mavin on this but I know from work experience that it's done all the time commercially when companies fly food to hotels and such by air.

In europe dry ice is heavily regulated in the sense that you have to tell the transport companies that you would be sending it.

Travelling JFK-LIH with 9 hour stopover in LAX in January. If stuff in coolers are frozen solid before I go, should it be okay when I get there?

Sounds iffy to me.  Really depends on the temperature in LA.
You couldn't get a routing with a shorter stopover?

Im really arriving at midnight on Motzei Shabbos and taking first flight out Sunday morning. Didn't want to kill the whole Sunday flying and wanted to break up flying as well.

Will AA allow we to take by bags in LAX and refill with ice and recheck next morning? What should I do?

I see these on Amazon

www.amazon.com/dp/B003KU77E4/?tag=cl03f-20

Expensive but some of the reviews seems to confirm that ice keeps for 24 hours. Looks like my best option right now unless someone else has a better one.

Seems small to me.  How many would you need for all your food?

They make 48 can size as well.

www.amazon.com/dp/B001PCIGNK/?tag=cl03f-20

Would probably need 2 of them. Steep.

Thanks to you the flight in first was free as well as the GH hotel. I guess I'll have to splurge on the cooler.

For a 4 day trip you can save yourself a whole lot of hassle and shlepping by just buying food from oahu kosher.

How do you keep cooler sealed during check in? Duck tape and hope security doesn't open later?

I had a similar stop over in SFO, booked for the night at SFO Westin, called in advance and asked nicely to store 2 small boxes in the hotel freezer(for dietary reasons), and it bh worked out great....food was completely frozen upon LIH arrival...if staying at an LAX hotel then there shouldn't be a problem asking

Thanks. That's if they let me. From what I hear it's YMMV since it's less than 24 hour stop over. I will buy one of these coolers that hold ice (supposedly) for 4-5 days from Igloo or Coleman, duck tape it shut, and hope for the best. Arriving at 12:30 AM, departing at 9:10 AM and trying to catch a early minyan and LaBrea bagel doesn't leave me that much time to get bags, put in freezer, take and check in. Hopefully I'll have good news to report when done.

ROFL!!!
That would be hundreds and hundreds of dollars.  Definitely would be better off just getting food from Oahu Kosher in that case.

My biggest "trick" has always been to pack all heavy items in my carry on...

two tricks if an airline weighs carryons- 1. leave it with a friend while you check in problem is some airlines either give you a tag you need showing it was weighed or they can also check by the gate. 2. Carry your teffilin/laptop and maybe some other heavy items...

have had it a few times, I don't think it's an airline thing I think it's an agent thing, in which case it's not much of a problem just ask to go to the side to 'rearrange', and then just go to a different agent.
