I thought Beltran was the mastermind? It was just his idea and Cora ran with it?

While Beltran came up with the idea, I'm sure that we'll find that Cora packaged what he had learned from the 'Stros and brought it over to the Sox

https://www.msn.com/en-us/sports/mlb/ken-rosenthal-shares-thoughts-on-jose-altuve-interview-that-fueled-buzzer-rumors/ar-BBZ3Nus?ocid=spartanntp
I didn't think people were suggesting that Rosenthal thought Altuve was hiding a buzzer under his shirt and thats why he asked the question. I think the point of people posting the interview was more about Altuve's reaction to the question, he seemed thrown by it and fumbled for an answer which is what brought about the suspicion.

Would love to see pitcher get a mic with an earpiece to the catcher

The problem with that is that usually the catcher is calling pitches (or they're coming from the dugout) either way it wouldn't usually the pitcher doing the speaking. If the catcher had a mic (as he's doing the pitch selection) the batter will most likely be able to hear.

Right, it would be a button system for the catcher

Or you switch it so the pitcher calls it.

That's a pretty major change to how the game is played.

how about a pitching coach calls it (like in football) and both pitcher and catcher have ear pieces?

That's possible. I've had that discussion with some people recently. It would also get rid of the need for mound visits, which especially for pitching changes are completely unnecessary.

My 8 year old daughter who knows absolutely nothing about sports has to do a current events presentation tomorrow, so we sat down and came up with a bunch of ideas, one of them was the Astros scandal.
She picked something else, finished the project, and then was walking away as there was some noise coming from the neighbor. She says, "Wait, I didn't know I played baseball?!"
Me, "what?"
"I just heard 2 bangs"

Ding ding, Pitcher covers mouth with glove, catcher can signal (nod/fingers/buzzer  :P) to confirm

While this is nice, it's not something that is more obvious in baseball as it is in other sports, because in baseball, more often than say football/hockey, the calls are usually binary, and the umprire's hand signals tell you the end result, some examples:
- Fair ball or foul ball
- HR or base hit

How about a buzzer?  :)

:)  - cute.

IIRC, there was a time in the early 2000s, where they were testing a pitcher/catcher system in spring training. The catcher had a series of buttons on the back of his glove, and the pitcher a series of LEDs in his web. The catcher would hit a button on the back of his glove to send the signal, the pitcher would see the LED light up and throw that pitch.

I need to find an article about it - I do remember teams trying it out, but I don't remember why it didn't catch on.
