Boomer during the game.
good find. Interesting discussion. I'm surprised announcers didn't mention

this is all 20 20 hindsight
ethier has to catch that ball. if darnaud gets a base hit, or if something big happens that inning, ethier will get absolutely killed for it. yes, greinke was dominating, but you have the out you have to take it

I would have let it drop. OBPs off Greinke this year with 2 strikes are sub .100. DP would have still been in order too.

so you would have thought about all that while lining up the ball in foul territory, realizing you were in foul territory, and remembering the obps off greinke when he has guys 0-2. and realizing the DP is also in order
got it

Should the Cubs be the favorite to win the WS?

This is not all that different than deciding between a sure out at first and a non force-out at another base (especially at the plate if we want to line up the situations a little better) - which is to say that it's a gray area and lots of variables can influence the decision. It's just been studied and discussed less because the frequency of each occurrence is night and day.

The ZiPS guy did some analysis on Twitter that suggested that the catch increased the Mets win probability by 5%. He also implies that the count was actually more important than the players.

I feel like there should be a 2-point-conversion style situation chart for this type of thing.

No, the coaches and manger in the dugout should signal to the players what they should be doing.

Obviously. We knew that back in the 80s when BTTF 2 came out and called it.

It is crazy the amount of money being bet on them driving the odds down. Did BTTF 2 make any other predictions?  :)

They better hurry if they're gonna finish up the WS by October 21st.

Somehow I don't think they'll be playing Miami in the WS either.

Man, after such compelling baseball in the division series', these series have been a real bust.

Mets-Royals. Crazy.
Royals looking like that will win back to back pennants. Just insane
