and hosmer looks like an idiot
but instead, duda throws the ball to the backstop and hosmer is a royal god
I don't think he looks like an idiot. It's still an aggressive hard nosed play. Especially in light of the fact that a year ago they held the runner at 3rd, refusing to dare the defense and look how that paid off for them.

Really crazy that they didn't score the Duda throw an error. These scorers have in their head that you can't assume the double play and therefore if you ever get 1 out on a play, no error. It's incredibly dumb. A good throw and he's out by at least 5 steps.

Couldn't agree more... so dumb and arbitrary... there is such a thing as a routine DP, and to not make a routine play, should be an error.

Indeed, this comes from the 1950's (earlier?) when there was no such thing as a routine DP

No errors are charged when attempting a double play, as long as one runner is put out.

Right so a batter flies out with a man on first who proceeds to tag and round the bases on a series of little league throws, no errors.

"Classic" Baseball stats are often arbitrary and/or senseless. Familia got a blown save, even though he got the ground balls you would have asked if him.

I knew minor leaguers didn't make much but I figured they at least made a decent living. Looking at this tweet I just stumbled across I am not sure how career minor league guys survive. They for sure need to work in the offseason...

The good ones get signing bonuses.

Everyone else struggles. Its not easy to make it in MLB if youre not a lefty reliever.  :P

It means he thinks that Starlin will be able to get his 200 hits a year and provide good range (and arm) at 2B. Since they traded a (kinda) starter to get him the Yanks need to now trade for or sign a SP.
Apparently GTR doesn't know of Starlin's ability to come up with a really bad play/error/base running mistake/or not hustle, very often and in important spots, or GTR thinks the Yankees can cure him.

I was confused because he mentioned miller
why should GTR not be happy with castro? for 9.5M a year, they got a guy who has an OBP <300
thats about the going rate these days

He can hit close to .300 (with his OBP being just a few ticks higher) with around 15 homers, and has range in the field. The problem is that he does that every second year, and that it comes along with many errors and base running mistakes.
My take on it is that it seems that the Yankees won this trade and most experts would say that. However, in two years (assuming Castro has one good year and one bad one) they can all point out how a 3 and change ERA in the AL east translates to an ERA under 3 in the NL. Also, it is almost certain that Zobrist's OBP will be higher than Castro's.

hes 26, which is rare for free agents, and hes one of, if not the best, defensive outfielder
However, he broke 20 homers once and broke 72 rbis once.
and he hits under 300
weird how his market exploded

Huge hit to the Cardinals. First Lackey and now Heyward, and to their division rival no less.
