Does anyone like the five game format for the first round (DS)?

No, but players don't want to play more WS games in November.

True but 162 games regular season. Seems there is some fat to cut there.

Cut it to 160 (10 football seasons) and add 2 playoff games.

My guess is that they try to make it 154 in the next contract and make the Wild card a best of 3 and the DS best of 7.

Potentially true, but owners won't be crazy about giving up 8 games of tv, 4 home games of tix and stadium sales, etc.
We're talking about some of the richest, but also greediest ppl out there.

Would it be wrong to not be sad if the Cubs lose in the playoffs?

Cubs payroll is twice that of the Indians and the Tribe is missing Salazar, Carrasco, Gomes, and Brantley,
Is 108 years that different than 68 years?

Cubs-Indians series will be a lot of fun. Said that at the Wrigley Softball game :)

  • Programs: 1. Search on google. 2. Search in the right board of DDF with a general word or two. 3. Read the wiki. 4. Read the thread. 5. Ask away.

Can't blame the Cubs for increasing payroll being that they knew they were WS contenders. I didn't hold it against the Cavs either. Tribe are certainly underdogs no matter who they play in any round of the playoffs especially if Gomes and Salazar don't come back from injury. BTW Schwarber is injured for the Cubs.

Closer race than NL wild card... If the season ended today here are (most of) the NL CY young candidates:
Hendricks 16-8, 1.99 era, Whip under 1, only 166 k's. Team won division.
Lester 19-4, 2.28 era, 191 k's. Team won division.
Scherzer 18-7, 2.82 era, Whip under 1, 267 k's. Team won division.
Fernandez 16-8, 2.86 era, dead, 253 k's.
Kershaw 12-3, 1.65 era, 168 k's in 142 innings .71 Whip. Team won division.
Jansen 3-2, 47 Saves, 1.86 era, 102 k's in 67 innings, .64 Whip. Team won division.
