I've had Blash on my fantasy radar for past 2 seasons and even owned him for stretches for his crazy power in my deep nl only. His hr rates everywhere he's been are off the charts, but of course he's got a lot of obvious flaws. Interestingly, the pads cut ties with Schimpf on same day. These 2 guys are the exact same player. High ks, high bbs, and high power. Three true outcomes! I guess pads were sick of that. The adam dunn/jack cust mold. Blash is another version of Chris Carter. But there's definite value there.
A poor man's Aaron Judge. Or now, a rich man's stolen poor man's Aaron Judge.

It's not like headley has 0 value.

Look, I like the deal as a Yankee fan. Brian Cashman is very good at his job.
Headley is a nice league average bat and league avg glove at a league avg salary. Not a terrible move (although I do personally like Blash over Mitchell) but it just makes a little less sense to me given that SD is a few years from contention. Maybe they'll hope his return to SD - where he had the one incredible year - inspires a resurgence and they can move him for more midseason. If they keep him all year while failing to make the playoffs (which they will), I think they lose this trade
Action for the sake of action?

Machado
I've seen those reports - but you have to think the package starts with Torres and as much as he could be the finishing touch to 2018, I just think it's too much for a rental... It would be very uncashmanlike to pony up for a rental like that. However if he can somehow keep Torres, by all means! But I doubt that.

Apparently they want 2 pitchers and won't trade to the Yankees.

I know you Yankee fans are already booking WS tix with Stanton and Judge, and I hate to rain down on your literal and figurative parade, but....

Mets signed Frazier 2 and 17. Yankees couldn't pony up 8.5 mil a year?

I think the problem was the extra year not the avg salary. They are clearly going for Machado next year and dont want extra money on the books.

Guess the Yankees are just a small market team playing in a big city.

Seriously, they make the Mets look like big spenders

Which is ridiculous. I totally get wanting to get under the luxury tax (kind of), but not wanting 8.5 on the books next year? Come on. https://pbs.twimg.com/media/DUQ_FZtUQAAfCgM.jpg:large Yankees down near the bottom. It's embaressing

What will they do with him next year if they think they have a great 3rd basemen ready for prime time?
