It's been flat for the past five years but overall, it has lengthened substantially over time. Seems like the big culprit is the number of pitchers used per game per team. So much more specialization among pitchers. Can't find number of pitches per plate appearance over this period of time. It has risen slightly over the past 20 years from 3.74 in 1999 to 3.90 in 2018.1970 - 2:32 length, 2.66 pitchers per game per team1980 - 2:33, 2.561990 - 2:51, 3.022000 - 3:01, 3.542010 - 2:54, 3.872013 - 3:04, 3.952018 - 3:04, 4.36
it's good to be a Lubavitcher
My grandfather often talks about is seems like MLB games have doubled in length from his childhood in the 40s.
Where did you get this from? Curios to see if 2000 was the anomaly or 2010 was.
You think we will ever see a pitcher with 10+ complete games in a season again?
neveryou will be amazed in a few years to see a starter pitch 2 complete games a season
SAD!
I agree that its not the same as it used to be but if you look at the numbers then it makes sense.
What numbers make sense? Have someone start the game and pitch to one batter? These managers are trying to act like they are geniuses and end up looking like fools.
As a Met fan, I probably watched the shortest games on average the past few years being that pitching is dominant and offense is almost non existent... fewer pitching changes and in general shorter innings on both sides of the plate.
also as a met fan there is not need to watch to see them lose so its shorter #longsufferingmetfan
Either way their winning 2019 WS
You a Cubs fan?
Lol. No. But I would trade managers...
You want a guy who thinks the pitcher should bat 8th?
Callaway also did that many times. He just copies without really understanding. I’ll takeh maddon any day. Will give you callway and stick in injured cespedis
