Only once NFL ends. That gap is the loneliest time of the year.

First of all, you're not a dynasty if you completely miss the playoffs every other year. People talk about whether the Spurs are a dynasty despite never winning back-to-back (and to me they're 100% a dynasty), but at least they made the playoffs every year in between.

How can you compare the fact that the spurs make the playoffs every year, to the fact that the giants don't.

Basketball half the teams make the playoffs. baseball its around 20%

Don't be ridiculous, the point is they weren't good the other years.

The Spurs finished 5th, 1st, 4th, 1st, 2nd, 1st, 3rd, 2nd, 1st, 3rd, 3rd, 3rd, 7th, 1st, 1st, 2nd, and 1st in the Western Conference during the Tim Duncan era. If this were baseball, they'd have made the 15 of the 17 years (16 if you count the 5th place finish which is now a playoff berth in the MLB). Even if they hadn't won any championships it would have been a tremendous accomplishment, like the Braves run of division titles.

The Giants by contrast finished 14th, 12th, 5th, 2nd, 6th, 3rd, 9th, and 5th in the NL during the Bruce Bochy era. That means that even in basketball, they would have missed the playoffs almost half of the time. They never held the regular season league title, and only won their division in the other 2 championship years.

I'm well aware of the rules, and was not in any way stating an opposing view. However, once the SP didn't go 5 it's at the discretion of the official scorer, who could have easily applied the standard of the pitcher who last pitched prior to the half-inning when the winning team took the lead for the last time. Hence it being noteworthy for the official scorer to announce, before the game is even over, that Bumgarner was getting the win if they closed it out.

Lol, just realized they didn't actually end up giving him the win.

And second of all, they were never consider the best team/favorite to win it during any of the years they won.
agree that the lack of being in the playoffs makes it hard to consider them a dynasty on your other point the spurs were usually not either picked to win they were always written off as being to old till they won

While they weren't always considered the favorite by the majority, they were almost always in the discussion, with some pundits frequently picking them in pre-season.

Giambi is retiring, was worth having him on payroll for 2 years just for this though:

now for the real question, any other realistic fans who know the mets will struggle to win 80, and arent blinded by everyone saying they will compete for playoffs?
