he was born 2 week ago, and they said it takes 6 to 8 weeks to get it

side note if you filled out the info at the hospital it can take much shorter than that.

According to that link to fly I need a passport. Am I reading wrong? Or they are not makpid on the official rules.

Driving is no problem. That's probably what got DMYD confused.
