Mishpacha or Ami?
« on: May 25, 2013, 05:10:12 PM »
This week I read the Ami's and Mishpacha's(only because I was reading the article on Dan ;) ) and was surprised at how different their approaches were in response to the Rosh Chodesh WoW event. Mishpacha is busy cursing out the chareidim who came to protest calling them names like hoodlums, hooligans, and hot-headed thinkers, as opposed to Ami which made little mention of the violence and focused more on the kidush hashem of all the girls.
What are your thoughts?

i didnt read the ami, but they appear to be sugar coating. at the end of the day there was no kiddush hashem.

The violence does not scare the government in the slightest.

I dont condone violence, but any government is afraid of massive civil disobedience

i tried the ami a few weeks ago and was unimpressed. in the issue dealing with the la meat scandal, the interview with r' may appeared to be conducted by a child

I stopped paying attention to both a while ago. A magazine can only last so long when its completed a full week before its read. You can only write so many interesting (kosher) feature stories.

Other than the first paragraph, the article on Dan was brutally written and hard to read.

Also, if Ami wants to be taken half-seriously, don't have a loon like John Loftus featured prominently and call it non-fiction.

The only writer in either publication who I half consider a real journalist is Jonathan Rosenblum

I agree he is a great writer but disagree that he is one to have the "Outlook" column in an ultra orthodox magazine

Got the Mishpacha to see the article on Dan this weekend. Was not overly impressed with the jounalism on that article, and overall throughout the magazine a taste of over-zealousness was felt. Case in point, the article on Dan was the most (only?) interesting one in the Mishpacha.

Not so with the Bina magazine (the only other one in the store :) that was a more pragmatic, interesting and well written magazine.
