Joint Accounts
« on: May 26, 2013, 11:32:49 AM »
I searched but couldn't find a suitable thread, so here goes: about six months ago I tried to sign up my wife for credit cards but they wouldn't approve her for  anything besides the beginner cards.  So I got advice to make her a joint card member  with my chase accounts. The advantage of becoming a joint over an AU is that they backdate the  credit information of the cards from the beginning of when the cards were open. So I added her to a BA card with an 8000 CL and a united card with a 5k CL. Lo and behold she started to get approved for her own cards! My first hiccup was that when I tried opening anew card with chase, I was declined and when I called recon, and offered to transfer some credit from my BA  the computer flagged it because I had A joint.  So I figured no big deal, I'll fill out the form requesting to take my wife off my cards and I faxed it in knowing I still had 30 days to call back recon to get the card approved.  I was in for a little surprise however, they declined my requests on both the BA and the united due to too many requests for credit! To add insult to injury, they did a hard pull as well. I tried calling recon but they no matter how many times I HUCAed they wouldn't budge. I basically gave up. And now that I had my annual fees coming up for both cards I figured I would close the united and transfer the credit line to the BAcard. Randomly my wife got a letter from chase saying that she could fill out a form specifically for the BAcard requesting to be removed as a joint card member.  When I called chase they assured me that It was guaranteed to be approved without a credit pull, but that it was only applicable to the BA card and not the united. My question Is as follows: I would like to keep the 5k that I had with united and close the card and transfer it to the BA. Do you guys think that now that there will be  a 13k CL on the BA they won't approve my wife's request.

A thing to contemplate when making joint accounts.
Friend wanted to transfer credit line of a joint account to approve another card, but they told him that it requires him to remove to joint user from the account and that needs a pull because he becomes the sole person responsible and then they could transfer the credit line. if it's in the same day of the applications then it shouldn't be a problem in most cases, but otherwise it is.

Moshe: How can you remove a joint just by calling?

They told me I will need to send in a form with both of the account holders signatures

That's if you want to move the credit line, but if you want to sacrifice the card and close it in order to approve you for another there's no problem/pull with that. IME, IIRC

I know this is an old thread, but i recently tried to add my sis as joint to my chase card, and they notified me they no longer offer joint account as of 05/31/2013

Anyone know what other banks do offer that? i seem to remember amex does not offer it as well

I want to put 3 people on same account as joint.

could that cause any trouble to my credit score? or any issues with the bank?
