I opened up this card a few months ago, and just noticed something weird that happened on an award stay I made:

My wife and I were traveling via Helsinki to Israel and had an eight hour layover. Knowing our daughter probably wouldn't let us sleep on the flight from YYZ to Helsinki, I booked a stay at the airport Holiday Inn- we landed right around check-in time, checked-in, got the free coke, took a four hour nap and checked back out in the late afternoon.

After looking at my account activity now (two months later), I see that we received the 15k points back in the account. Is that normal? Did they think we cancelled our reservation because we checked out so quickly?

Something like that happened to me too, only thing I can think of is that I asked for an upgrade, and got it. Perhaps something quirky happened during the switch

I was surprised today when a friend told me today he recently got the Chase IHG card. I'm pretty active inn DDF but never heard of this card! Anyways is there a DD post or thread comparing the different Hotel CCs? I have a stockpile of Starwood points which are great but they don't have locations in a lot of places...
I am sometimes accused of overthinking things. I am still mulling over whether that accusation has merit.

From DD MS "-Hyatt points are incredibly valuable and you can get a ton of value from new point options like cash and points which are also eligible for promotions and upgrades. Transfers to Hyatt are instant. Miles don’t expire as long as you have any activity every 24 months."
"-Marriott, Ritz Carlton, and Priority Club are generally weaker hotel currencies and you’ll probably find better uses of your Chase points elsewhere."
Agree?

I get upgrades sometimes, not regularly, though. I think that the most valuable part is the free night every year
+1. I used it in Florida for a only-suite hotel, were rooms go for around 500 a night. It was a beauty.

It's the only card I pay the annual fee on with certain SSNs I have to work with. That card more than pays for itself every year.

Not sure how it pays for itself, unless they always upgrade you when you stay. But anyway, why not churn it?

I do and I have. Working with a few diff peoples SSns so I've kept some open on account where I'm busy churning other cards.

Gotcha. While we're on the topic, new FFN required?

Thinking of churning right after the anniversary night posts but before the AF? In any case you can probally cancell within 60 days.

Wasn't necessarily thinking of churning it right then, but rather just cancelling. I probably could get it back within 60 days, but I'd rather not pay it in the first place if possible.

what's the value for these points?

You can buy them through Dan's way for $70 for 10k points, so an 80k signup bonus would make it worth around $560, and you can get a lot more value than that if you use it during pointsbreak promotions and other high end hotels.
