Yes, must be transiting to a third, non-china country.

HKG and Macau are considered third countries.

So I can't go if I'm going back to HK. Can't decide if it's worth paying 320 for visas for two days.

Yes, it should start at midnight after your arrival, giving you slightly more than 72 hours,  but don't cut it too close.

I booked TLV-ZRH-PEK-DEL and plan on staying for 72 hours in Beijing and flying on different flight.  Should I have any issues?
