Bottom line - can the Great Wall be visited while on a 72 hour visa?
Looks like a few people did it.

I am not sure if I understand this 100%. I am going to be in hong kong and would like to fly into china for 24 hours. will I need a regular visa or can I get a 72 hour one at the airport? I will be flying in and out.

If you'r flying back to HKG you need a visa. If you're flying to anywhere else you don't.

1) Visit the Chinese embassy. In NY that is on 12th Ave and 42nd St.
2) No, you can hire one of the expediting services.
3) No, even a rush will take a day or two, or more.

Chuck wasn't talking to you (look at who he quoted).

You need to be IN TRANSIT. You cannot go HKG-PEK-HKG, you'd need to go HKG-PEK-XXX where XXX is a third country. If you fulfill that, you can stay for a maximum of 72 hours.

Anyone been to Beijing in the winter? According to what i read online the highs in January or in the mid thirties and the lows are in the teens. Does anyone know if this will impact different tourist sites? Will it be too uncomfortable to visit certain places? And finally is the kosher restaurant open in the winter?

Does it "close" in the cold, or will it just not be comfortable to visit?
