SPG Bonus approach
« on: May 26, 2013, 01:52:28 PM »
Hello,

What is the best way to spend the 5K I need to get the SPG bonus? I man that other than a hotel room, there are no categories that get me bonus points. So, is there a portal approach I can use that I can at least double dip to make the most of my 5K that I need to spend to get these bonus SPG points?

Thanks!
david

I know but I highly doubt that's what the op is interested in a W mattress. He didn't even know what the W store was. It sounds like he wants the most points he can get while meeting his threshold.

OP was asking about an option to get bonus points for spending on SPG. I mentioned the W store as it is part of Starwoods and will give extra points. The W store offers more than mattresses. Not saying the OP will find 5K to spend in the W store, but was just mentioning that was the option for bonus points.

If you have a spouse or a parent who does not have an account, you can sign them up. Once they are signed, you can get them a free card from Amex which will even have a unique card number on it. Can double or triple your AP monthly spend that way.

You can use your own cards on others AP accounts. No need to make them AUs. Though, the whole Amex AP blend is questionable.

I understand that. Would think it would be "safer" and not much of a big deal to get them their own card with unique number.

I don't recall any reports of AP shutdowns due to using someone else's card. As per an FR risk, if anything, large purchases on an AU's card makes you more prone to an FR.
