See these:

http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/165472-product-key-number-uninstall-deactivate-windows.html
from these articles it seems that two computers cannot use the same key at the same time.
I have two computers one xp one 7, I want to upgrade the xp to a 7 using the key from other computer, is this possible?

yes. But it's against the t&c and possibly unlawful - the reason I am writing is this so that u know that what is being discussed is shtick so don't go around thinking this is an official answer. Vehamaskil yavin

Some ppl have written the they walked into a best buy and copied the code off the sicker on the shelf models
It's what is on the outside that matters
