If you read the reports , specially on flyertalk, http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/credit-card-programs/1465023-citi-cards-closed-perk-abuse.html you will find daily reports of Citi card shut downs, Many for large spend & some for specific store purchases.
Once they shut down one card, not only they take away the points, they close any other cards with them.
For example, if they close your TY card, they close your Citi AA and other citi cards you have.

Some got their TY card closed for redeeming points for mortgage & student loan. They also put a stop payment on those checks.

I have over 70k thank you points on my TY card. I received 10k points offer for $3k which I did last month. Before that I rarely used my card.

I don't have plane tickets to book. There are no Amazon GC, I wonder what to do cos I don't want to lose my points.

I read that thread. Everyone who is getting shut down had the x5 TYP promo offer and then went and bought VR.

That's strange that they don't have amazon gc's I thought they had some sort of partner thing going...
Only other thing I've gotten from TY is gas and wall mart gc's. If you're going to wall mart anyways for visa gc deposits etc... you may want to order some...

the reports are many and different, some for TY promo and 5k to 15 k monthly spend, some for reedeming mortgage check. some for spending big on other citi cards.

90% of these reports on ft are made up garbage to scare people off from using these deals. don't sweat it.

If you hand around FT you will see this happening but in the case (Citi) the reports are true.

I hang around FT for 2 years . Most stuff is accurate, and you can tell the wackos by their comments.

I must have read the thread incorrectly then, I apologize. I thought it was only GC + x5 promo that was triggering the wrath of Citi.

they are worse than chase. You don't need many months of big spending to get banned with Citi.
The moment they see abnormal large spending and they see points posted after the statement closes, they takeaway points by closing ALL citi cards.

They will close everything you have and put stops on your checks from cashing out your TYP. They go nuclear on you.
