« on: May 29, 2013, 07:37:44 AM »
I was just wondering..what organizations/people do you give your Maaser to?
It's not about the quantity of your posts.  It's about the quality.

I believe they are Mechallelei Shabbos (It seems they post on twitter, fb and on blogs on Shabbos), you might be better off giving it to the Red Cross.

I usually give it to individuals I personally know are struggling, many times Bochurim in Yeshiva whose parents don't support them and they are sitting and learning. Sometimes I find Bochurim who are literally starving due to a lack of funds. These Bochurim don't have experience dealing with poverty and don't know of any org to turn to or are too ashamed to do so.

There are very clear rules in hilchos tzedaka who to give to first. Maaser has its own rules. There are even some english books on the topic.
Most knowledgeable LOR's would be glad to offer direction.
Basically, family comes first, who dosent have a relative that is struggling...

I figure this is not the intension of this thread and understand ppl don't want ddf to become a place for collectors ...
But still can't hold in...
My wife has two very close friends (who are best friends..) who just got engaged and both don't have any money to their names to afford even the simplest of weddings...
Ones parents are immigrants who never got offered any decent job and live from paycheck to paycheck,
Seconds comes from a divorced home etc...
When famine to one day of vort  she asked if she can get her chasan a Sefer for a "chasan" present !!
(And thy not sure yet when wedding will be because don't know when they can afford it..)
Right then i Appealed  to family members and collected money for a watch for each if them (Thanks to 'shotgun' for getting us an amazing deal on them!)
But they still need to make a while wedding!!
Ive been thinking of posting here .. But then whole "raffle"happened so not sure such a good idea..

So if anyone has any massir they can spare anything is greatly appreciated!!
Please pm me for payment options..

You may he right but they have helped save hundreds, if not thousands, of Jewish lives, as I experienced first hand. Sometimes it's about the message, not the messenger. And if chalila someone in your family one day needs a donor you'll be happy they exist

I give almost everyone asking, but not a penny for Israeli meshulochim.
These guys should get a job.
Americans are not here to work hard just so they can smoke and fress papittos for 10 months of the year, and then come to the US collecting for the rest two months.
Love me or hate me. I still love you.

An interesting thing I once learned about Tzedakah. If someone asked for money it is our job to give him (if we can), but not our job to judge whether or not he is in real need of the money. If we give him money that he doesn't deserve ("smoke and fress papittos for 10 months of the year") then it is up to Hashem to take away that money. We don't need to play G-d and judge who is legit or not.

It's a hashkafa thing, not halacha. I sure hope the person who told me this didn't make it up..
