UPDATE: replaced the router, so that solved the IP issue
range is still an issue, so looking for a repeater/bridge.
(note: using the connection for video/audio conferencing, couple hours daily)
sofar I tried a few of newegg.com 's cheaper models ($30 range) (yay free shoprunner!)
seem to have the 'bandwidth' I need, but crash too much (edimax, tp-link etc.) or keep getting A/V delays.
QUESTION:any suggested devices?
what's the minimum I'll pay for a repeater that will be at least as stable as my 'windows virtual wifi adapter'?
dd-wrt with a wrt54g

what I think you're saying in english is, that to get a more stable repeat, I should use DD-wrt firmware? which will also be cheaper because instead of buying a repeater, just buying a router?

care to clarify?

what is the minimum hardware i'd need?

I apologize for the short response.  I was short on time.  Find a Linksys WRT54G (I'm sure if you look hard enough, a friend has one laying around collecting dust) and install WRT54G.  To set it up as a bridge should only take a few minutes.  This is also an advantage in that you can still have your own private network, separate from the other wireless.  If you can't find a WRT54G, but can find another router, check the dd-wrt wiki for compatability.
