You don't need to be a resident. You need to look Jewish. If you're not Jewish, living in the town of Monroe they won't let you in.

Should it say 'were' used?

Correct. And the commas in the last sentence aren't correct.
Life isn't about checking the boxes. Nobody cares.

Why do so many people leave a space before the punctuation? (Like this: Why do so many people leave a space before the punctuation ?) :)

Do you plan on paying cash and staying at one of those places?! They're great, but most people hear don't shell out that kind of cash on hotel stays.

The first time someone wrote that to me in an email, I couldn't believe it. He's my employer, and a very smart person. Now I see it all over. Like your/you're, and "Will let you know". Do people really think that "will" means "we'll"?
Sometimes I think there is a completely new language out there, and they're not mistaken; we're just behind the times, like how Ye Olde English evolved into today's American English. Imagine DDF a few hundred years ago, where AJK and I would be bemoaning someone who said "I think you should look into it", instead of "I reckon thou shalt delve into the matter".

"Will let you know" is not necessarily a mistaken contraction of "we will". It might be shorthand- with the subject dropped. Like if you had texted "call you back later".

Get with the program. Language is a fluid thing that evolves with the years. The old and archaic versions of our language are in no way more "correct" than ours.
