I don't understand the question.

Maybe I misunderstood yours. I'm just trying to envision a quote which ends with a semicolon and I'm not coming up with anything.

The quote doesn't end in a semicolon. The sentence contains a semicolon which appears immediately following a quote.

I'm having trouble imagining that, too.

But either way, treat it like other punctuation- which differs from place to place. In the US you would write: Good Sam asked, "Should I put it in the quotation marks?" In the UK you would write: Good Sam asked, "Should I put it in the quotation marks"?

e.g. They say "semicolons have different rules"; they may be wrong.

That semicolon has different rules?

Or that any punctuation not part of the quote goes outside?

Any grammar geeks here?

My grammar textbook lists "doing" as a helping/auxiliary verb but I can't think of any example where it is used as such. Can you?

PSA: the space goes after the comma. Not before it.

Not before it.
Is that a proper sentence?

Is that a rhetorical question?

It's neither grammar nor punctuation, but I gotta wonder if this guy did this on purpose or if he actually thinks he used the correct word.
Where is that? Prolly closed at night for simchas.
