Thats really what it is. It is an investigation to truly understand a concept or halacha. But looking to see if theres a better word than saying that the Rabbi has an investigation about the halacah of...

If you're referring to a חקירה in the sense of a קלער, I don't think investigation is correct, but I'm stumped. Perhaps it's one of those things that only exist in לשון הקודש and אידיש.
